On Religion and Buddhism at Docudharma

Docudharma is not a religious site. It is not a Buddhist site. It is a WEB site.

Dharma is not a religious term.

The letters buhd in my UID do not have anything to do with Buddha. The name is a corruption of Bodhidharma ….cutened up for blogging purposes.

You do not have to be a Buddhist, hahaha, to blog here. No one here claims to be a perfect Buddhist master, we are not agents of whatever the Buddhist equivalent of Aipac is. We have NO interest in spreading Buddhism or converting anyone or evangelizing in any way.

Since it has been (can you believe this shit?) the subject of gossip on the gossip sites I am more than happy to out my PERSONAL spiritual beliefs, this is a choice I am making….because it amuses me. As does watching the discussions on the gossip sites about this site. They seem intent on proving that we are not perfect and finding things to attack us with.

This seems to be INCREDIBLY important to them!

I will save them the trouble. We are EXACTLY as perfect as they are…which is to say…not at all. Hypocrisy and inconsistency are (just like the RW Fundies, btw) the two clubs they seem to want to beat people with. I will save them the trouble.

I am an inconsistent hypocrite….just like them…just like every human being.

As to my spiritual beliefs. I call myself a taoist for short. If you want to get technical, I suppose you could call me an anarchically unorthodox taoist. I have read the major taoist texts…..30 years or so ago. I do not study the texts. I study the tao. The texts are the finger pointing at the moon.

Here is my Dogma in it’s entirety: Karma, it is not a philosophy,….It’s The Law.

Here is a clue, judging other peoples religious beliefs is petty. Trying to judge other peoples religions and other peoples practice of them is being willfully stupid.

But of course the bottom line in all discussions of belief, religious, political or gardening…..If I am not attempting to IMPOSE my beliefs on you….

It really is none of your business what the fuck I believe, what I do in my PRIVATE life….or for that matter, who I am.

  2. if this topic is being discussed and trashed on other sites!  (I haven’t read any of them, nor do I intend to go looking for it.)

Although I find it a little bit amusing, I also feel kind of sad for the people who haven’t progressed past their junior high school phase.

Keep on doing what you do, and thanks again for hosting this fine site.  ;~)

  3. we are all about worshipping roofing shingles and if you don’t like it you can go to hell or home depot, take your pick.

is the whole of the law.

Just be prepared for the consequences.

  4. IN THE BANNER!  And you are idolizing John Lennon!  What are you some kind of Orientalist?

but not in the ways they think they are.

  5. swiftboat attack on Buddha.

    You Taoists are so intolerant!

I thought we all worshipped here!

I mean just LOOK at the meat balls on that thing! How could anyone not worship cahunas like that?

  6. here is to joyously embrace humanity, hypocrisy, and to lather and blather. I guess if folks are gossiping it is a form of flattery, however pathetically negative it might be. It is weird. I went to high school once and I wasn’t planning on attending again.

I am a dharmatician.  Somebody’s gotta protect and help the dharmorder along these days.

  7. … you are right, buhdy, when you say we are “fresh meat” for them to chew on.  And of course there are old grudges as well.

What is ironic to me — if someone who wasn’t into blogging read all of our sites, DKos, DocuDharma, PFF, MCat, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between us.  Hard to believe, isn’t it?  We all know the differences, those of us who have read all those sites.

But the average reader not into all the scenes and spats would just see variations on the leftist theme, and lump us all together.  The only ones who would notice the difference are the players in the gossip game.

What is interesting to me, though, is not what “they” are saying.  Because no matter what anyone does here, the self-perpetuating gossip mill will continue to turn.  I find it interesting how you are sorting all this out, buhdy — for pretty much every day when anything is put forth on site rules, there is a howl from outside this blog, and very little howl from inside.

I’m glad of that.  Ultimately you are the one who will make the decisions, through trial and error, as to what the rules will be here.  If we see folks who post here in good faith question those rules, then that’s something to really take a good look at and, if they are right, to change the rules.

As far as gossip from outside the site, if it gives you something to think about and post here, and there are Dharmaniacs who feel there are valid criticisms, then fine with me.

It is funny — not even two weeks old and we are such a big item with the bloggerati.

  9. the observation others have made…
    we are ‘doing something right’…
if those sites find it necessary to diminsh a community…
we are speaking into a listening that elists defensiveness….
we are touching something which borders on ‘undiscussable’……..
and I agree it will pass…..
    perhaps to ignore is unwise…
however to engage strongly in some ways gives strength to the self perception of that crowd….
i.e. strenghtens them in their own eyes……….

  10. I did not, I repeat, I did NOT break this site! The Menehune did it.

I didn’t ask you.  I was commenting to Ek, and then you imposed yourself in the threads of the “conversation”.

But at least now I know what the homeostatic depth of intellectualism on this site is.

  11. I am devastated–I visualized you sitting in a Shaolin monastery and blogging your posts of infinite wisdom–when you weren’t busy perfecting your kung fu techniques.  Sigh….

  12. for not being Buddhist enough?

Or you are receiving such criticism?

Oh, please don’t tell me this is going on at pff, for chrissake!

    ROFLMAO!

There’s an oxymoron for you.  We don’t even have churches.

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.

The name that can be named is not the eternal name.

So I can’t even tell you what it is, let alone evangelize about it.

  13. but I don’t what PFF is, and please remember that some of us don’t have any history except here.

The advantage is that no one has to try to impress or to compare or to right old wrongs or vice versa.

Let’s all enjoy the community that buhdy founded and nurture it together.

And on that preachy note, I’m a “born again agnostic.”  I know that I don’t know, and I just try to respect, honor and steward the world in which I find myself.  fat lot of good I’m doing – look at you all!  **G*

Have some fresh baked challah bread – my own home churned organic butter on the side.  and here’s some goat cheese from the girls.

  14. Was that stated up front?  I think it’s a little misleading, if your blog is not going to try to convert people, to not say that right at the beginning.  People want and they have a right to know what they are not getting into.  I came here because I thought it would guarantee me warm and comfy place in the blogosphere for all eternity.  I still believe.

Fuck, now you tell me…after I shaved my head, gave away all my clothes and started wearing this orange bedspread.

I suppose that next you’ll tell me that I didn’t have to give up my house and car to move into this mountain cave in China..

I don’t have to get up and sweep the temple?

  15. what ‘gossip sites’ are we talking about?

    (no need to link BTW)

  16. I’m a dyslexic, agnostic insomniac…

I stay up all night wondering whether or not there really is a dog.

    (it’s bad, I know – sorry).
