Why We Are Here

(Because I can

-Armando – promoted by Armando)

I think we are all here because we all believe sincerely that, no matter how much we disagree, and man do we ever disagree, everyone here respects the fact that we all are committed to positive, even progressive change for our country and world.

I believe that I have had a serious policy disagreement with everyone on the planet so it should comes as no surprise that I have had huge disagreements with every poster here and will no doubt have a hell of a lot more of them going forward.

So why am I here? Simple – having disagreed on issues, large and small, with Buhdy, OPOL, Turkana, EK, etc. – I have found that they and I could dust ourselves off and still have fun, respect each other, fight again, and then fight again. And then have some more fun, respect each other and so on.

When Buhdy told me about this site I wanted in. Hell, I insisted on being in. Why? Because it brings back what used to be a staple at daily kos – a community that could fight together, fight each other and play together.

I miss that as much as I miss anything in blogging. I could not get that at Daily Kos for a long time. I know I’ll get it here.

So we will discuss important ideas and issues, organize for important fights, fight important fights amongst each other, but also have fun together. Be a real blogging community. And I have a real confidence that Buhdy, the Zen Dictator, will keep it that way. So I’ll be around a lot. To discuss. To fight. To play. To bond. But mostly to regain that old feeling that I miss, the feeling of being a part of something special – a real political blogging community.

I can’t wait.

          after my own heart.

We’ll clear the room and THEN get along famously.

My story is a familiar one.

I grew up poor, no running water, I milked cows as a young boy . . .

Seriously, you don’t know my story?

          You’re the only one.

I am a lawyer. A dirty money grubbing corporation representing lawyer, especially representing the evil Wal-Mart Conglomerate among other evil entities.

          I am a Cuban-American.

I am the only Democrat ever spawned from my family.

          I am profane.

I am a pain in the ass.

You’ll learn more as we go along.

the goal staring us in the face THIS September is not funding.

So let’s dream the less impossible dream this September.

            1. Yes I guess ya do.  I’ll try to remember to salute every now and then.

Eh, defunding, impeachment.  I don’t see either happening with this Dem congress and senate.  I don’t understand it, it is infuriating and unbelievable.

I’m pro-impeachment.  I don’t think this war will end until we get these crooks out of office.  Having said that, I don’t see either option being played by the folks we now have representing us.  And I don’t know what it will take to break through the bubble they’re living in to see that there has to be real opposition to these clowns, not piecemeal efforts here and there, certainly not this “politics as usual” mess that’s going on.

I am at wit’s end at this point as to what can be done.

            2. The Masons?

And I think you mean, regarding me, what happened at MLW.

Buhdy and you and EK and OPOL won’t let that happen.

                I know you won’t.

With so many strong minds disagreements are inevitable, but our passion for a better America and a better world will always bind us together.  I’m grateful to be included here and honored by the company I’ll be keeping.  We all have our work cut out for us and we cannot afford to fail.  I believe it is our fate to either rescue the promise of America or to witness its demise.  I’m hoping desperately that it’s the former.

      not impeachment.

Who here is against NOT funding?

      You present a false dichotomy.

  4. Great post….you captured what I am hoping for perfectly, in a way I could never express it, thanks for that alone!

The spirit of all being in it together is what is CONSCIOUSLY missing from that other place, imo. I seem to have gotten there right at the tail end of it (some have accused me of ending it, lol) but you are exactly right sir, that is what we want….and what we will make.

    Incivility, sure…..meanness, no.

    The spirit of true debate.

Not defending some nebulous supposed position of Markos….but deciding what OUR position is through the process of actually thinking it through and talking it through and arguing it through….and then going out for a beer.

    Dead on.

    Thanks Armando!

Btw, Sept 6th is looking pretty solid as the launch date.

I’ve been writing all over about it lately.

      tomorrow in the Guardian again.

      1. i dont fight.

        1. Who do they presume it is SUPPOSED to be about?

    1. is to do what we can to help unify them.

And as much as I hate to say it…..JUST on general principle…I agree with Armando.

Pushing them to unify around defunding is the immediately MORE achievable goal.

But overall it is our job to try to unify them enough to…OPPOSE.

In some way, at some time, no matter what.

After the first time, they will come to love it…and then we might get impeachment

      1. Kissenger still walks the streets of Manhattan, and you expect Bush to be impeached?

        1. opol’s debut piece here is also recommended and being read by lots of folks at dKos and he cross posts this site in it

so, as i mentioned in another comment, we might get some guests… just an fyi…

  5. and emphasize this. people should NOT bring their baggage from daily kos. anyone involved in old wars on daily kos, anything that got personal and ugly- leave it at the door. when we argue, don’t make it personal. i see people coming in here and spamming the site with their old hatreds of other liberal bloggers, and i’ll be using my magic powers. and if big tent democrat shows up, i’ll know what to do with him!

but seriously, if you realize heat of the moment means um, heat of the moment, and can crack some jokes afterwards, we’ll get along great.

            1. … my father

good god… we could clear the room and then walk out arm-in-arm laughing and everybody else would be a wreck

how else do you expand your thoughts if you don’t get them out of your brain and play some bumper cars???

the same with my dear father-in-law… everybody avoided disagreeing with him… but i couldn’t help myself when he’d bash Clinton and we’d get into and his 8 daughters would be in tears and we’d finally realize hey.. what’s going on… we loved it and he needed SOMEBODY to argue with… (he the irish catholic) and me his only son’s 2nd wife… a omg liberal! i loved that man and we had fun… but more, we respected each other

so now you know all you need to know about me… so what is your story

              1. but they have to impeach and they have to deFUND

they are charged with protecting the Constitution and therefore are required to impeach

                deFund… no brainer

              2. Not presenting a dichotomy — simply saying with our present reps neither goal seems reachable.  At this point I’d accept any kind of opposition, whether defunding or impeachment (or both!).

My point is that it appears this Congress is not unified enough to go the defunding route.  Even if that is the best solution, how do you plan to get them to do this?  They’ve caved on everything else from the Iraq Supplemental to FISA.

Of course I’ll be bitching about the bad poems and argung why we should not be agitating for impeachment but rather should agitate for NOT funding the IRaq Debacle.

And then I’ll be cracking jokes with OPOL, Buhdy, EK and all the rest.

                  I’m 8.

      1. Liar!

        You fight every day.

You are just a Bruce Lee fan….one of his best lines…

You can call it the art of fighting without fighting!

That fits you to a T!

        1. wanting just a little bit more…

          1. Impeachment is long overdue, I don’t see any particular time frame where it is not “staring us in the face.”

But I won’t argue impeachment with you (at least not at this time).  I will say that if the Dems were strong enough to defund, they’d no doubt be strong enough to impeach.

So to me the problem is why the Dems are not unified — on anything, it seems!

So the real problem, I think, that we have to deal with in September is whether or not Pelosi can whip the Dem caucus to stay unified.  If she can’t, then I think we’re in for a world of hurt — war with Iran, more insanity in Iraq, God knows what else.

Any ideas on how to get the Dem caucus more unified in opposition to this misAdministration?

              13 times in my post.

It is an old joke – ‘it is all about me’ my critics would say and they were right a lot.

  6. To the pain then-

Prince Humperdinck: I don’t think I’m quite familiar with that phrase.

Westley: I’ll explain and I’ll use small words so that you’ll be sure to understand, you warthog faced buffoon.

Prince Humperdinck: That may be the first time in my life a man has dared insult me.

Westley: It won’t be the last. To the pain means the first thing you will lose will be your feet below the ankles. Then your hands at the wrists. Next your nose.

Prince Humperdinck: And then my tongue I suppose, I killed you too quickly the last time. A mistake I don’t mean to duplicate tonight.

Westley: I wasn’t finished. The next thing you will lose will be your left eye followed by your right.

Prince Humperdinck: And then my ears, I understand let’s get on with it.

Westley: WRONG. Your ears you keep and I’ll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, “Dear God! What is that thing,” will echo in your perfect ears. That is what to the pain means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever.

Prince Humperdinck: I think your bluffing.

Westley: It’s possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It’s conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I’m only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. But, then again… perhaps I have the strength after all.

[slowly rises and points sword directly at the prince]

    Westley: DROP… YOUR… SWORD!
