If they had affluent parents, chances they would have been able to get legal immigrant status in the first place; and they would have mommy and daddy paying for college like their upper-middle class (predominantly) WASP peers.

Can't people just do the right thing out of basic humanity,
without tacking on all the right-wing quid pro quo bullshit.

You don't see calls for the Bushes, Kennedys, Rockefellers, or Forbes scions to complete two years of compulsory military service (or any Public Service, for that matter...).

Yes, you are committing to sending higher numbers of Mexican American youth off to be cannon fodder in the mid east, if you promote the current version of the Dream Act.

You would trust this Administration, who makes it a bad habit to throw anyone under the bus they can't intimidate into going along with the Perpetual Mid East Wars/Occupation, to do the right thing ?  Curious.

I suggest you deal with the reality. Because I don't feel like getting into another pissing match with the Beltway neocons.  Especially with their nasty little tendency to throw around the nasty little racist labels when they're having their little temper tantrums about being exposed as frauds.

And before you try peeing all over my cheerios, remember that I have a race baiting, stood on the steps of the State Capitol calling for deportations, neocon Republican Congressperson whom I've documented as being a racist aligned with the Minuteman movement, and I've been not supported on it,  while the rest of the DNC/OFA tries out their new "appeasement" policy.   You see, the problem is the right wing of the Democratic Party likes this sort of thing.   They can point fingers at it when it's convenient.  But they still won't do "the right thing out of basic humanity" as wyamarus pointed out above, unless there is more homage to the MIC.

It is important that allies like myself stand alongside them.  If we feel squeemish about the DREAM Act, the solution is not to oppose it outright, but to support it at the same time that we work towards taking out the military provision of the DREAM Act and putting in the community service provision of the DREAM Act.   If you are not swayed by my the multiple arguments that I've made, then all I ask is that we all stand with our unauthorized brothers and sisters.  Nothing less is on the line than their own humanity and their right to exist.

Are you actually committed to this, the community service option, or is it like the Public Option or Single Payer, a good idea that will be let go of , as a bartering chip compromise, because "the deal" has been already done behind closed doors ?

You know that one of the reasons they're targeting Charlie Rangel is that he said they should bring back the military draft.
