To: Rep. Joe “You Lie” Wilson

9:00AM

Rep. Wilson responded to me about the fate of veterans.  He states:

I recently joined my colleagues in the House of Representatives in supporting a resolution designating September 16, 2009 as “American Legion Day.”  A similar resolution had previously passed the Senate.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as an organization dedicated to assisting veterans and furthering their goals.  The Preamble to the American Legion Constitution reads as follows:

FOR GOD AND COUNTRY WE ASSOCIATE OURSELVES TOGETHER FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES:

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and goodwill on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

These words written in 1919 ring just as true today.  I thank you for your service to our nation, and pledge my continuing support for our servicemen, servicewomen and their families.

It is an honor to represent the people of the Second Congressional District of South Carolina, and I value your input.

If I may be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Why, I do believe you CAN be of further assistance to me, Rep. Wilson….

Here is my reply:

Dear Rep. Wilson,

I am glad that you and your colleagues found the time to honor the American Legion with a day all of its own.  Nothing says, “we are here to support you” like an official day in memorial.

Unfortunately, that “honor” didn’t seem to extend to funding for veterans.  It didn’t extend into housing assistance for military members on the cusp of foreclosure.  It didn’t extend into funding for the Veteran’s Administration.

Truly, what weren’t you working on when you and your colleagues thought you needed to pander to the veteran community with an official day?  Were you dealing with our love-struck, wayward Governor and his illegal plane use?  Were you dealing with our still abhorrent public school systems?

And, speaking of our military, when are you going to support the repeal of DADT?  Only 70% of the nation wants it repealed.  58% of Republicans want DADT repealed.  So, I can be sure that you will do the “right” thing instead of pandering to that lunatic, homophobic base.

Oh wait, you already HAVE The opportunity to do the “right thing” and support a public option for health care.  You haven’t so far.  So far, you’ve been just a mindless drone in Congress, voting with the GOP mandated position, regardless of whether it helps or hurts the average citizen.  In fact, your voting record leaves quite a bit to be desired.

– From 2007 forward, you have voted NO on EVERY women’s issue bill brought forth.

– You voted NO on Welfare and Poverty to: Extend Unemployment Benefits, The G.I. Bill Expansion, Housing Foreclosure Assistance, Medicaid Extensions, and the Childrens Health Insurance Program.

In fact, you simply seem to hate the unemployed, veterans, those in crisis, students, and anyone else who isn’t part of funding your re-election campaign.

But, you did these things before you decided to show yourself a dumb, hick when you yelled out “you lie” to President Obama.

Frankly, you are simply a political whore — you have sold your vote, and soul, to the highest bidder in your pursuit of power and money.  In exchange, you were commissioned to shit on everyone else, and, you have done that admirably.

Mr. Miller is going to give you the race of your life.  I’m glad.  I hope he wins.

By Spring of 2010, Rep. Wilson, you are going to learn one very, hard, fact: that only 20% of the nation still call themselves Republicans.  All of those moderate conservatives you and your ilk drove out in favor of the lunatic fringe, they want people like you out of office.  As do I.

I am a veteran.  I am one of the people you tried to pander to by giving us an “official day”.  I could care less about having a “day”.  I DO care about having a job in South Carolina.  I DO care about having affordable health care for me and my family.  I DO care about our school systems, which the Republican Party will not fix because its way too busy trying to use my tax dollars to send religious individuals to religious private schools.  I CARE that an American citizen was tortured in South Carolina at the Naval Weapons Station Brig for years while you, and the rest of the GOP, touted the exact opposite of our Constitution.

So, don’t talk to me about our Constitution.  It is for everyone.  It is not a political football you think you can kick one day and dismiss the next.

You are simply the lowest form of life — a politician with no soul.

Your words are as empty as your soul.
