Chomsky, me and you…(UPDATED!!!)

(11AM EST – promoted by Nightprowlkitty)

THE TIME SLOT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 4:30 PM EST DUE TO A SCHEDULING PROBLEM FROM PROFESSOR CHOMSKY’S DEPARTMENT… SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE! (the alternative was waiting until February 4th, and I did not want to put you all off that long)

(the ad will reflect changes shortly)

Photobucket

As promised, this week I am opening this thread for your input…

The show is only an hour, so I cannot possibly ask every question nor take every caller.

So what my intent is here, is to ask you what you would like to ask him, and hopefully take your various answers and combine them into a streamlined format that will satisfy everyone’s needs.

I intend on asking about the epic fail of our institutions of higher learning as chronicled last week in my Walmart University for Social Work essay.

I intend on asking him about the humanitarian efforts in Israel/Palestine, and his positions about what is happening there.

I am just swarming with questions about how the movement failed in the 60’s and how we can possibly revive it.

This is a political show, so I won’t be getting into Linguistics – totally not my field. My command of the English language wouldn’t be too gawd~awful were it my second language and I was a fifth grader, so I won’t even attempt to go there as neither. Seriously.

So, I will check this thread until Friday, and all serious inquiries will be considered.

You count to me, this is about letting we “little” (ughh, I despise using that term – but there it is) people who rarely have the chance to tap a brilliant mind, and have a conversation as equals.

  1. of 9/11.

So I really don’t know what to ask.  But I do wonder why he still refrains from reading Jones and Harrit and so many of the other hard core scientists who have done such excellent work on the science of 9/11 at the Journal of 911 Studies.

I wonder if he’s coming around.  I hear that he is reconsidering some of his former views.

I made your ad a link to your site for you, instead of to photobucket.

    chomsky.info: CNN, May 30, 2002

PAULA ZAHN: I would like to start off, professor, by reading a very small excerpt from your book where you write that nothing can justify crimes such as those of September 11, but we can think of the United States as an innocent victim only if we adopt the convenient path of ignoring the record of its actions and those of its allies, which are, after all, hardly a secret. What are you referring to here?

NOAM CHOMSKY: Well, for example, the United States happens to be the only state in the world that has been condemned by the World Court for international terrorism, would have been condemned by the Security Council, except that it vetoed the resolution. This referred to the U.S. terrorist war against Nicaragua, the court ordered the United States to desist and pay reparations. The U.S. responded by immediately escalating the crimes, including first official orders to attack what are called soft targets — undefended civilian targets. This is massive terrorism. It is by no means the worst, and it continues right to the present, so for example…

    [snip]

PAULA ZAHN: Professor, let me jump in here, but implicit in that — aren’t you saying that you understand why America was targeted?

NOAM CHOMSKY: Do I understand? Yes, so does the U.S. intelligence services, so does all of scholarship. I mean, we can ignore it if we like, and therefore lead to further terrorist attacks, or we can try to understand. What Mr. Bennett said is about half true. The United States has done some very good things in the world, and that does not change the fact that the World Court was quite correct in condemning the United States as an international terrorist state, nor do the atrocities in Turkey in the last few years — they are not obviated by the fact that there are other good things that happen. Sure. That’s — you are correct when you say good things have happened, but if we are not total hypocrites, in the sense of the gospels, we will pay attention to our own crimes. For one reason, because that’s elementary morality — elementary morality. For another thing, because we mitigate them.

  2. This should be really interesting.

You have to wonder, sometimes, if the likes of Chomsky, and others, might have very strong private views apart from that they may actually say, publically.  Viewing some of his statements below, his understandings are somewhat suggestive.

Don’t forget, too, the AE911Truth (who now have a Petition being signed demanding that Congress conduct a truly independent investigation).

Also, note AE911Truth’s support of “Building What?”:

  3. is as deliberate as our de-industrialization via that Georgia guidestones thing.  When they get rid of that American freedom and excessive consumption thing they will have freed up tons of resources for their profit margins plus devoting that energy toward lowly clerks who are truely bi-lingual and can produce three times what the old farts in the States can plus the lack of third world enviornmental and other regulatory agents on top of their carbon exemptness.

  4. Noam Chomsky has also declared that the available facts, when approached scientifically, refute the 9/11 Truth Movement. Speaking of evidence provided by this movement to show that 9/11 “was planned by the Bush Administration,” Chomsky declared: “If you look at the evidence, anybody who knows anything about the sciences would instantly discount that evidence.”10 In spite of his dismissive attitude, however, Chomsky in 2006 gave some helpful advice to people who believe they have physical evidence refuting the official account:

“There are ways to assess that: submit it to specialists . . . who have the requisite background in civil-mechanical engineering, materials science, building construction, etc., for review and analysis. . . . Or, . . . submit it to a serious journal for peer review and publication. To my knowledge, there isn’t a single submission.”11

his thoughts on resistance.  I’m not sure what exactly.  I guess third parties are of particular interest to me…but I wouldn’t want to limit it to that either.

Maybe something related to Chris Hedges or Derrick Jensen?  I know I’m being vague, but I’m just tired today.

The 9/11 thing will get a brief mention, framed as “investigation, yea or nay”

I think it is more important to get his insights on how to revolutionize the people’s movement (what he may be able to help with) is more important that trying to change his mind to our way of thinking about something we disagree upon.

Strange, with twice as many recs, this is off the rec list while others written the same day remain, and off the “recent essays” list suddenly while ones from a week prior are present.

    What gives????

To accuse me of being a fan of (former) President G. W. Bush, and then to provide ridiculous anologies such as the ones that you provided below, to compare with 9/11,  is not only wrong, but completely ludicrous, on the face of it.

  6. I think I know what you intended to write, but I think habit ensued. Is the interview time 4:30 PM EDT or is it 4:30 PM EST? Whatever the case, I wouldn’t want to miss it.
