In a call to fellow military veterans against our immoral, illegal and irresponsible worldwide wars of aggression, Veterans for Peace is calling its members out into the streets. Now.

In a statement directed to the U.S. House of Representatives, President Obama and its membership, Veterans For Peace urged its chapters to demonstrate opposition to the war in Afghanistan and Pakistan by doing two things:

1) Take the actions listed below within the next several days, before President Obama decides to escalate the war in Afghanistan, and

2) Plan acts of even greater resistance during the two days following any such decision.

VETERANS’ GROUP TO MEMBERS:

MULTIPLY RESISTANCE BY ANY PEACEFUL MEANS AVAILABLE

Continue writing and calling our representatives and demanding peace.

·   If we’ve done that: take to the streets

·   If we’ve done that: sit down in the streets

·   If we’ve done that: sit down in Congressional offices

·   If we’ve done that: sit down, clog up, incapacitate, call in sick, withdraw consent and generally bring the nation’s business to a halt, wherever and whenever we can, with any peaceful means available.

Veterans for Peace has it right. There comes a time after all the calling and writing and they continue to ignore you, there comes a time for direct action. And notice the fundamental idea that civil disobedience is considered peaceful. Because, to the State, clogging, incapacitating, non-compliance and bringing down the government through civil disobedience is a violent act of war.

The entire point of non-violent civil disobedience is to illustrate the brutality of the oppressor. To win the hearts and minds of the oppressor population away from the oppressive policies. Sometimes it takes a while. It is during this time of winning the enemy’s heart and mind lots of resisters get beat up, jailed and worse. The purpose of civil disobedience is to provoke a response from Authority.

Veterans for Peace is calling on its members to face the consequences of civil resistance. The enemy always, at first, sees civil disobedience, which is the disruption of business-as-usual, as violence against the State. And while the teabag, birther, deather, Palin fetishists are low hanging fruit on the act-out meter, there is lots of very justified anger in the general population generated by an usurpation of demotic power, a co option of our representative government and the twisting of our national purpose to war and conquest from its founding principle to enlighten humanity and ensure general progress toward happiness.

Veterans, who have been sucked into the propaganda sinkhole of belief to zealously pursue their mission only to find their mission a pack of lies and disinformation, are natural soldiers in our Defense against whatever name you wish to put to our current dilemma. A surveillance, nanny, baby-sitter society is another way to describe Totalitarianism. Authority accrues to itself absolute control of all aspects of society. And we all know the mess which happens when vain and weak men are given absolute power.

Justification for our wars are out and out lies. Obama is the current Liar in Chief and appears to have taken to his new job like a Portuguese Water Dog take to, uh, water. And though he struggles with his Dr. Strangelovian general staff who would rather destroy the planet than lose to their own over-heated imaginations, Obama still parrots the Cheney doctrine wherever he can. Osama’s out there somewhere in the ether plotting more attacks on America and we must pursue him and his allies to ends of the earth. BAAWAAWAA!

Our men and women in military uniform see the truth through the fog of war. Our mission isn’t to chase those responsible for 911. There has never been an investigation into who is responsible, the blame was  cast by Bush/Cheney, two of the greatest lying war criminals in the history of the world, so we spend billions, kill millions, create generations of future ‘terrorists’ (freedom fighters against empire) and accrue such nightmarish national karma, our current economic crisis is only the first of many shoes to drop because when evil is concerned, payback is hell.

Our veterans for peace, the real patriots are now ready to move beyond mere words in communicating to a deaf, dumb and blind political class. They are urged to take to the streets. These wars must be shut down and the United States must find a way to beat its swords to plowshares or desolation is our future. Our veterans for peace have seen desolation in the name of peace up close and personal. They know the human misery caused in the name of empty rhetoric. They know the command structure doesn’t have a clue what it is doing beyond sleeping with the corporations which make and profit from War, the greatest evil ever invented by humanity.

So, the question, average citizen, will we join our veterans for peace in the streets? Will we help to “sit down, clog up, incapacitate, call in sick, withdraw consent and generally bring the nation’s business to a halt, wherever and whenever we can, with any peaceful means available.”? Will we risk personal injury to ourselves, risk the loss of our wage-slave jobs, risk persecution by our ever-increasing authoritarian government? Will we choose sides or sit on the sidelines? Will we finally say we enough is enough, we’re mad as hell and we won’t take it anymore?

Because anything less will leave our veterans for peace out there in the streets alone. Anything less will assure our defeat. Let our last stand begin with our Veterans for Peace and let it end with A People united against tyranny, greed and the degradation of the human species.

Resist by any peaceful means. But peaceful does not mean meek. Resistance is meant stop tyranny.

Support the resistance. Support Veterans for Peace.
