Online Course: Reading Marx’s Capital with David Harvey

From David Harvey’s website davidharvey.org:

David Harvey is a Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) and author of various books, articles, and lectures. He has been teaching Karl Marx’s Capital for nearly 40 years. Read his CV.

Why study Marx’s Capital? From IndyMedia Ireland:

Capital is perhaps the most important text Karl Marx wrote. It is one of the most influential books ever written, particularly in terms of left wing theory and political economy. However it is more often talked about than actually read and it has an only partially justified reputation for being difficult to understand.

As we watch the failure of our current version of capitalism, neoliberalism, spread around the world, it is up to each of us (should we choose to do so) to look and help to find what will be the next dominant economic system for our society (national and worldwide). Studying Marx’s Capital, even if you don’t end up agreeing with what Marx points out, will give you a stronger understanding of the possibilities are out there. If you wish to break the chains of capitalism, Capital is a starting point for the process.

  1. I bookmarked the course and as someone who likes to quote Marx (just isolated bits) and get accused of being a Marxist I do believe I’ll take this course. Your right several times I have attempted to read it but it’s heavy going to say the least.

  2. …David Harvey in the last 2 listener fund drives.  His course sounds very good.  I’ll definitely look into it.

    Thanks rj….
