Why study Marx’s Capital? From IndyMedia Ireland:
Capital is perhaps the most important text Karl Marx wrote. It is one of the most influential books ever written, particularly in terms of left wing theory and political economy. However it is more often talked about than actually read and it has an only partially justified reputation for being difficult to understand.
As we watch the failure of our current version of capitalism, neoliberalism, spread around the world, it is up to each of us (should we choose to do so) to look and help to find what will be the next dominant economic system for our society (national and worldwide). Studying Marx’s Capital, even if you don’t end up agreeing with what Marx points out, will give you a stronger understanding of the possibilities are out there. If you wish to break the chains of capitalism, Capital is a starting point for the process.
