gotta write

Doesn’t happen often anymore, but there have always been times when “things” start to overflow, when life just gets too full, when the psychic levees and dikes that I’ve built and maintained over 50-odd (some, very odd) years simply aren’t going to hold.  Y’all welcomed me here….so you asked for it.

Is Barack Obama an Alternative for U.S. Workers?

Original article by Shane Jones via Socialist Appeal.

After years of Bush’s open-ended war on working people at home and abroad, many on the “left” are desperate for an alternative. For many, that alternative is Barack Obama, a Democratic Senator from Illinois. Obama, who is very careful with his words and actions, has done a good job so far of portraying himself as a “sensible progressive”.  However, far from being a “progressive” alternative, Obama is at his core a typical representative of the bosses’ political parties. Despite presenting himself as a candidate of “change”, Obama is a defender of capitalism and imperialism, and hence of exploitation and oppression. On all fundamentals, he is far closer to Bush than he is to being a genuine alternative for working people.

Pony Party: Pictures

It is hot and I am lazy beyond belief. I took these pictures one morning while walking the dog in one of the upscale older neighborhoods in Memphis.

Oh. And somebody tell Rusty I was all set to hop on a plane and visit him until I did further investigation of the weather this week in ND and found out it is almost as hot and humid as in my part of the world. It is/was 86 in Bismarck.

“The Investigation”

I was reading Cassiodorus’s Through the Looking Glass on Abrupt Climate Change, which is quite a good read, and realized that this was the third time this week that I’d seen that same quote he uses from Humpty Dumpty.

The other two citations, which I have no idea where they are, were both in the context of the Obama/Mcbush mashup this past week. The English language has been sorely abused these last eight years, by politicians and the traditional media, and I expect things will only get worse as the campaign season runs on.

Some years ago I used that same quote from Lewis Carroll as an epigraph to a short story. I’d like to share “The Investigation” with you now, so…

Hop in a barrel and follow me over the fa-a-a-a-alls……

If you’re going through hell, keep going……

……but stop by here for a drink along the way. Bar’s open. But check your weapons at the door, your permit’s no good in here.

(“This little one isn’t worth the effort. Come, let me get you something……”

“……No blasters! NO BLASTERS!!!!!”)

Kalidasa:

   Listen to the Exhortation of the Dawn!

   Look to this Day!

   For it is Life, the very Life of Life.

   In its brief course lie all the

   Verities and Realities of your Existence.

   The Bliss of Growth,

   The Glory of Action,

   The Splendor of Beauty;

   For Yesterday is but a Dream,

   And To-morrow is only a Vision;

   But To-day well lived makes

   Every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness,

   And every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.

   Look well therefore to this Day!

   Such is the Salutation of the Dawn!

Smile, or I’ll put an ice cube down the back of your shirt….or down the front if ye be a fetching lass with a nice rack. 🙂

And join me below the fold.
