Will we see any change?
Funding for Iraq groups phasing out
Or will the situation that exist now stay pretty much the same?
And if change, how serious?

Today is Juneteenth and a time to celebrate.
For those of you who do not know what Juneteenth is, I’ll have a little history for you after the fold.
As of June 2008, 29 states and the District of Columbia have recognized Juneteenth as either a state holiday or state holiday observance; these include Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming
In the year in which an African American candidate was nominated by the Democratic Party, which prior to the Civil War was a party complicit with slavery, the Juneteenth celebration this year is particularly special.
What is Juneteenth?

Wrote a little poem.
Here it is:
Bad News Blues
Sunk so low
Ah, so low! They have great sayings in the bible
about being sunk lowBut my suffering
is not the suffering
of Job.And what I suffer
is not something
one can touch or taste
or hear or see or feel.So is it even real?
Sunk low, so low
cizzen blues and even that is a lie
ah ah sunk so low, so lowThey say it’s always been this way,
maybe so
then is it just knowing that hurts
and blind following the way to bliss?Do armies march only
to foreign battles
or is the fight
on our familiar ground? Will I be merely
the stuff
of cannon fodder?If so
I hope
I land bullseye
on those bastards.

When you despair, as I do, frequently, of what will become of you…
When you are out of work and have no money to pay the rent…
When your boss is a tyrant and you don’t know how you can last another day…
When the politics finally has you beaten down because the idiots outnumber you…
There is an answer. Albeit a temporary answer…an answer nonetheless…
And her name is Connie Willis.
Connie is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met…and I consider it an incredible privilege that I was able to meet her at all…at a few cocktail parties, years ago. She probably doesn’t remember me, but that’s all right.
She is a brilliant writer. That’s all that matters.
