1 Italy prosecutors appeal U.S. soldier’s murder case

| ROME (Reuters) – Italian prosecutors have appealed a Rome court’s decision to drop a murder case against a U.S. soldier who killed an Italian intelligence agent in Iraq, taking the matter to the country’s highest court.
“We filed the appeal,” one of the prosecutors, Franco Ionta, told Reuters, adding the process would take “months, not weeks.” U.S. soldier Mario Lozano had been tried in absentia in Rome for shooting Italian agent Nicola Calipari at a checkpoint outside Baghdad airport in 2005. |

The muses are ancient. The inspirations for our stories were said to be born from them. Muses of song and dance, or poetry and prose, of comedy and tragedy, of the inward and the outward. In one version they are Calliope, Euterpe and Terpsichore, Erato and Clio, Thalia and Melpomene, Polyhymnia and Urania.
It has also been traditional to name a tenth muse. Plato declared Sappho to be the tenth muse, the muse of women poets. Others have been suggested throughout the centuries. I don’t have a name for one, but I do think there should be a muse for the graphical arts. And maybe there should be many more.

I have to say, those are the exact right words that explain the space I’m in right now. I’m in the exploration. There are lots of different ways that this book can go, and each decision heads it in a completely different direction.
In some ways it reminds me of this thing a friend and I used to do back in college. We’d get in the car with our sodas and a couple bags of chips or whatever. We’d make sure that the tank was full. And we’d just head out and zen drive our way through the afternoon.
Sure…we had a map. But the point wasn’t to know exactly where we were going. It was to experience the drive…to see the world…and to find new and unusual things that we were certain none of our peers would see of the state we’d made our adoptive home for the time being.

RoundUp by Monsanto
Hi everyone, yup another storm has hit, this time promising up to 1 inch of ice! So I had some time to research RoundUp, an herbicide made by Monsanto. You’ve probably seen the bottle on the shelf at your hardware store or caught their ads on the boob tube. Well, it seems that RoundUp is not just made for the home user. Their largest market is in agricultural uses.
RoundUp’s main active ingredient is Glyphosate which has been around since the seventies. Guess what?! It’s toxic to animals! Guess what else?! It has a half life of over 100 days when sprayed onto fields. Why does this matter? Well, besides poisoning the farmers and workers spraying the substance it can also get into waterways and still be on your hay when you go to cut, also killing an entire field at once is destroying habitats for many beneficial insects and critters.
It is apparently very common practice for farmers in my area to kill off everything before reseeding, their favored way to do this is by spraying RoundUp on the field. In the old days the farmers would burn the fields, over plant, or use legumes to rebuild the soil. It looks like I’ll be doing one of the older techniques in order to grow better hay for my horses.
This could mean having to get all of my own equipment so I don’t risk cross-contamination from other farmer’s equipment. That would mean a bigger tractor, manure spreader, no till seed drill, drag rake, a hay elevator and a lot of back breaking work. But it could be the only way to go.

I’m not going to go into what many of my ‘Nam Brothers went through, upon returning and loooong after, it’s easy to find the facts for those to young or not around than. For those old enough, well, most just plain weren’t paying attention, and Now We’re Repeating because of that!

There were troubling aspects to this 90-page document. While slanted toward the conclusion that Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction stored or produced at 550 sites, it contained vigorous dissents on key parts of the information, especially by the departments of State and Energy. Particular skepticism was raised about aluminum tubes that were offered as evidence Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear program. As to Hussein’s will to use whatever weapons he might have, the estimate indicated he would not do so unless he was first attacked.
That’s what Senator Bob Graham, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2002 wrote his Washington Post OpEd regarding the classified 90-page National Intelligence Estimate on Saddam’s Iraq that was presented by Bush administration’s CIA as evidential basis for a war with Iraq:

Kicking Down The Walls Of Racism With Hope.
Hello fellow Dharmaniacs, just wanted to share a story that happned to me today at work.

I live in a bright red district in a overall blue state. Racism is alive and well in this city. There is a clear line dividing the west side made up of mostly African Americans, the east side made up of whites, and the old down town middle district, which is mostly Latino. You don’t even have to live here to know the divide, just drive across town east to west and see who’s about, it’s that clear. It’s still possible here to go for years without contact with person of color, and many do just that.
I work with a guy who for all the 20 years I’ve know him has been the prototypical Limbaugh, O’Reilly loving wingnut.
I have a short story about this man and how he will vote in this election, and WHY.

GMW: Continuing the Effort

Here’s the short version for those of you just tuning in.
Blogs are great, but a large number of people don’t read them. We need to get the information we have out to them. We need to talk to them where they are. On their level. Stop talking around them and over them. We aren’t better than they are. We have to reach them.
Since we haven’t the resources to do traditional publishing, we’re starting a newsletter that can be printed from home and passed out on the street. We’re looking at between 4-8 pages (depends on a few factors that haven’t all clicked in place, yet), and each article will be short. This will be published weekly. We take submissions and choose the ones that best fill a set of criteria. Anyone can submit their work. Multiple articles if they choose.
What follows is the status of our project so far.

Pony Paltry-Judge Dread
Due to having to make a cash deposit in person to a certain bank account in a certain place, ms. moneysmith was not able to spend the incredible amount of time and effort typically on display in her Pony Parties.
