The Stars Hollow Gazette

So tomorrow we celebrate Frederic’s 38th birthday.  He has long since passed his pirate apprenticeship (1940) and must surely by now be actively contributing to the reduction of global warming.

By the time I was a senior in High School pretty much the only reason I was there was to pick up my gym credit and stay out of trouble.

Stay out of trouble, heh.

Since I had by that time made it clear I was going to be entirely obnoxious during morning exercises I was no longer welcome in homeroom and mostly marked absent the entire year.  If that dodge failed I also had my magical permanent pass as an editor of the alternative school newspaper that made attendence after second period pretty much optional anyway.  Still there were those more Cameron-like that my editor buddies and I tried to help out.  Life moves pretty fast.  If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

One of our more successful projects was a production of H.M.S. Pinafore that was ostensibly a History project, but it had a cast of thousands and rehersals lasted for months.

I was Ralph Rackstraw, Able Seaman and I can still hit all the notes in the National Anthem depending on the key.  It was not my first choice, because I had none of the really funny songs; but I did get a duet with Josephine- the girl I thought was the hottest one in school (alas, my love to scorn, she didn’t feel the same way about me).

Sometimes success is it’s own punishment.  Four matinees (one for the History class and then once for each class), two gala nights for the ‘rents, and then a road show for the rest of the system.  Oh, and we all got As.

Hey, Cameron. You realize if we played by the rules right now we’d be in gym?

Knowledge is Perception, Perception is Reality

Well folks,

Here is the first part of Chapter 2. Let me know what you think..

Nader’s Latest Run

Subtitled: Monkey Wrench or Cattle Prod? By Stephen Fleischman via Counterpunch.com.

“Here we go again,” murmured the old guard Democrats when Ralph Nader officially announced his candidacy for president in 2008, on Tim Russert’s “Meet the Press” show, Sunday, Feb.24th.

I just got a phone call from an old-fashioned Texas racist

WARNING:

This essay contains multiple usages of a six-letter racial epithet starting with “N,” all of which are found within quotes.

I was at home this evening calling people in Texas for the Barack Obama campaign.  (I stop a half-hour earlier than the campaign recommends, having gotten reamed out a few times by various people for the sin of calling past 8:30 p.m. when all good people have already gone to sleep; I waited to write this diary until then.)  I was finishing up a message on someone’s machine when my call waiting beeped: I was getting a call from an unfamiliar number.  Because I was expecting a call back from a coordinator with the Obama for Texas campaign, I rushed through the end of the message and picked up the call.

Writing in the Raw: The “End” Will Be The Beginning

On my walk to the train early Tuesday morning, I realized that my apartment building has a new resident.  Or at least the property does…

He sleeps wrapped up in a blanket in the 18 inches or so between our building’s far northwestern corner and the bush that runs along the edge of the sidewalk.  At first glance, it’s easy to mistake the man for an abandoned pile of clothing.  I’m sure that’s by design, and frankly I doubt even I would have noticed him at all if I hadn’t dropped my keys in my early morning stupor.

And now that I’ve gotten my personal matters straightened out again; and I will finally leave this miserable neighborhood for good in 6 weeks to single-handedly multiply the Coolness Factor of SE Hawthorne by a factor of 10…I wonder where this man will go from here?  Will he stay out this way for long?  Will anybody else “catch him”?  Does he even care?  Does he have anything to lose?

I wonder about this man’s life…but I’m never going to wake him.  Does anybody ever think about him?  Now, or in the recent past?  Besides me, of course…

A wife?  Kids?  Parents, brothers, sisters…nieces, nephews?

Does he know that somebody’s writing about him right now?

Idiots and Assholes

Now that extremist pastor John Hagee has endorsed John McCain, Todd Beeton wants to know whether McCain will denounce Hagee. Of course, unlike with Louis Farrakhan’s endorsement of Barack Obama, McCain actually appeared with Hagee, and actually happily accepted his endorsement. The better question, then, is whether Tim Russert will harangue McCain about it the way he harangued Obama about Farrakhan. Given that McCain actually appeared with Hagee, and actually happily accepted his endorsement, you would think Russert would be at least similarly concerned.

Here’s a quick note to corporate media hacks: As a liberal purist, I was no fan of Bill Clinton’s presidency; but when you joined the Republicans in attempting to hound him from office over a personal matter, I warmed to him. Defending him from idiots and assholes helped me focus on and appreciate President Clinton’s many positives. I’ve also been no fan of Hillary Clinton, but defending her from idiots and assholes, both in the corporate media and the shrillosphere, has had the same effect. She’s far from perfect, but she would be a fine president. I’m also no fan of Barack Obama, but the corporate media are already making me warm to the idea of his possible nomination. He’s also not perfect, but he also would be a fine president.

That’s how it works. We liberal skeptics do come to the defense of our more moderate political allies, when they are under unfair attack from idiots and assholes.

This is going to be a long year.

If you also haz cat (or 2…)

Cats reduce stress in people’s life and protect their owners from having a heart attack, a study suggests.

Targeted By Psychopaths

For 26 years Don Siegelman served the people of Alabama with distinction as Secretary of State, as Attorney General, as Lieutenant Governor, and as Governor.  His life of public service and accomplishment is a testament to everything that is noble in the American spirit:

Don Siegelman was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1946, where he grew up. His mother worked as a beautician until her late 70s and his father worked in a music store until he got fired after suffering heart attacks. “I saw him cry because he thought he was bringing shame to his family,” Siegelman said.

Don went to the University of Alabama where he served as the President of the Student Government Association. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1968, and from Georgetown University School of Law in 1972 and studied International Law at Oxford University in Oxford, England from 1972 to 1973. He served 18 months in the Air National Guard and worked in the Washington office of U.S. Rep. Allard Lowenstein, D-N.Y.  While in law school at Georgetown, Siegelman met his expenses by working as an officer in the United States Capitol Police.

Before he was targeted by Rovian psychopaths, prosecuted by Rovian psychopaths, and imprisoned by Rovian psychopaths, Don Siegelman told the people of Alabama, “I was drawn into public service because I believe in the people of this state. All I ever wanted to do was to work to make this state a better place.”

Don Siegelman is not in a better place today.

THIS is where he is:

Well done in explaining the coming Amero, the further loss of rights and who is behind it.  By embracing those “conspiracy” theories one might decide they are facts.  I have.  After that it all makes perfect sense.  No, they are not incompetent, it is by design and only the agenda is unknown to you, the average American.

You are CEO of the world.  You have a choice between a mere 300 million lost souls or the potential profit margine available in six billion.  The six billion have also been relatively easily controlled and manipulated by elite power brokers since the beginning of civilization.  If you were on top what would be your choice.

Bringing ‘Freedom’ and ‘Democracy’ to the Iraq People!

How many remember this:

“For the vast majority of Iraqi citizens who wish to live as free men and women, this event brings further assurance that the torture chambers and the secret police are gone forever.” – George W. Bush upon capture of Saddam Hussein.
