SOTU: How long will it take? (w/poll)

On Monday night bush will once again attempt to fool the American people in the annual State of the Union (SOTU) address. Of course he has succeeded at this many times in the past and the MSM didn’t even blink, didn’t question any of his premises, but simply took up their role as stenographers and duly reported, “The President said…”

My question is: How long will it take before he tells his first lie?

And I don’t mean anything along the lines of, “Hello,” he lied. I mean a flat out falsehood intentionally designed to hoodwink, bamboozle, dupe or otherwise deceive the people of America and/or the world. I’m talking about a major whopper here.

To find out my guess, hop in a barrel and follow me over the fa-a-a-a-a-alls.

One minute and forty-seven seconds. 1:47. One hundred and seven seconds.

Over the course of the last 7 years, bush has gained experience at telling lies and has become more proficient at it. Now his prevarications hardly ever evoke that knowing smirk or that evil grin indicating that he thinks he has pulled one over on us. Now he can equivocate like the best snake oil huckster that ever slithered across our land.

He has had such success with his lies that now he dissembles with complete confidence. His fabrications roll trippingly off the tongue in a tone of utter conviction, with total certainty that no one will question how misleading he is being. (Except maybe out here in blogland where we excoriate the blatant falsehoods he foists upon us.)

I’m sure many of you have seen the report about the 935 lies that the bush misadministration put out in the lead up to the war in Iraq, but there is the link for those who missed it.

Cross posted at the Big Orange.

PS-I’m thinking about reposting my pre-SOTU diary from last year titled “How To Use A Teleprompter (NOT!)” sometime tomorrow. Is that a good idea?

PPS-Are there any synonyms for “lie” that I missed?

Is the Pony/Pie/Hide rating system too cutsie?

  1. I think I’ll post my SOTU diary from last year here no matter what they say over there.

  2. You must like the number seven…

with 60 seconds….because after he goes through the list of addressees, he’s going to say , “The State of the Union is good.”

    does that count ?

  3. Is there a prize for the person who guesses correctly and, if so, what is it?
