We the People: Pwned?

Political bottom.

I think I might’ve hit it. But I’m not sure whether to lie here and scream, ROPBLMAO, or jump up and feel the ground under my feet and start again.

That great, weird, silly, grand orange place has motivated my activism, educated me, strengthened and inspired me and also annoyed and frustrated me, disillusioned me, and exasperated me. The whole symphony of emotion has here been played. We’ve argued and laughed and cried there. Whatever the case may be–I’ve found community there and here: safe harbors in the turbulent waters of our times.

But now, I really gotta ask y’all: “We the People” — have we been pwned? What if the noble experiment is but a laughable fantasy?

Defunding Iraq: Misperceptions, Disinformation And Lies

[Crossposted from OOIBC]

The entire debate about NOT funding the occupation of Iraq and George W. Bush’s Iraq and Mid-East Debacle revolves around one piece of propaganda that has been sold to the public in one of the most heinous aggregations of misperceptions, disinformation, and outright lies ever foisted on a public that cares for the lives of the American troops sent into Iraq, i.e. lies, spread by republicans and democrats and trolls.

The Bush Administration, and Republicans and Democrats in Congress alike, repeat almost daily that they will not defund the troops, with both sides vying for public support with the same bullshit.

It’s the biggest load of crap there is.

The Democratic Leadership apparently is afraid of not funding the Iraq occupation either because they are afraid of being attacked by Bush and the GOP for not funding the troops, or because they want to continue the occupation.

They know it is a lie when Bush says it.

Yet they turn right around and tell people (repeating the lie) that advocating not funding the occupation is advocating not funding the troops.

Emergency supplemental funding for a war or for an occupation is not for the troops. It never has been for the troops. It will never be for the troops.

NOT passing emergency supplemental funding does not hurt the troops. It never has hurt the troops. It will never hurt the troops.

Not passing emergency supplemental funding is simply NOT FUNDING the occupation. That is all it is.

Multipolarity: An End to US Hegemony??

A few months ago I ran across this quote from Glen Ford on The Black Agenda Report:

There’s a term going around in the corporate media called, “multi-polarity.” It’s really a euphemism, designed to describe the death of white supremacy over the planet. It’s been a long time coming – more than five centuries, since the European invasion of the rest of the continents began, resulting in the death of untold millions of people. Whole civilizations were wiped away, to make way for a northern European global sphere of influence. Now that era is coming to an end.<...>

China, India, Brazil and South Africa have joined in a political and economic compact to resist the domination of the United States and Europe. The political-economy of capitalism dictates that these nations must be dealt with. The social realities of the United States dictate that it cannot raise a military force sufficient to suppress the dark masses. Europe learned this lesson a generation ago. Now it is time for the white supremacist Americans to learn the same lesson: they cannot rule the world.

Impeachment: Dennis Kucinich on Democracy Now This Morning w/poll

Dennis, riding high from his movement on impeachment and also for the Democracy for America Pulse Poll victory, appeared on Democracy Now this morning with Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez.

Buried in a story about a crazy substitute…

Kinda bored at work this afternoon, had a week’s worth of paperwork to catch up on (or to ketchup on), so naturally I found myself browsing the news.

I saw this link from CNN.com about a substitute teacher’s lessons enraging parents.

I was curious.

Face, it- so are you.

Friday Night at 8: When Fisherman Can’t Go to Sea, They Stay Home and Mend Nets

They do, you know.  Fisherman can’t always go out to sea, bad weather sometimes makes it impossible, among other obstacles.  But they’re always busy, there’s always something to do.

Same can be said of politics, I think.

A year ago I was happy because Democrats took the majority, yay!

Now I’m not so happy because the Democratic leadership is a bunch of damned fools and they’re doing everything but leading (Pelosi’s snark notwithstanding).

Time to Vote! Round 2 (Poll)

Thanks to everyone that participated in Round 1 of naming our project.  The votes are in and the top 2 names are The Progressive Charter  with 9 votes or 27.27% of the total vote
and Progressive Voices Project with 8 votes or 24.24% of the total vote.  These two beat the competition by a margin of 2 to 1.

In this round we will be voting on these final two plus some late submissions.  This will be the final round of voting.  The names that do not win can and most likely will be used for subsections or related projects so thanks for suggesting them.

Save your last bullet for Democrats

How many times are you gonna get punked?

Seriously.  How much can you take?  I got punked again too when I lined up behind Chris Dodd after he put a hold on telecom amnesty and promised to filibuster-it seemed so principled to LEAD NOW!-then he failed to show up for the vote on Mukasey.  So much for the “gravitas appeal.”  Punked again.  Dodd’s dad, the Nuremburg prosecutor, must be especially proud that his own son can’t take a stand on torture.  I guess that leaves me with flying saucer boy.  Dodd wasn’t alone, of course.  Most of the rest of you fuckers got punked too.
