Yvette Melendez from Glastonbury, Conn., who is sitting in the nominee's VIP section in the hearing room, said she winced inwardly when Sen. Tom Coburn said, "You'll have a lot of 'splainin' to do." But Melendez says she didn't feel offended. "I personally did not think it was appropriate," she told me in an interview. "But I'm sure he said it as a joke."

And looking at the clip it feels that Yvette Melendez from Glastonbury, Connecticut is pretty much spot-on:

My Sessions/Sotomayor/Annie Hall Kos Diary mentioned by KO

by: Upper West

Tue Jul 14, 2009 at 19:52:10 PDT

After reading Steve Benen about Sonia Sotomayor's humiliation of Jeff Sessions today involving Judge Çedarbaum, I immediately thought of "Annie Hall" the Movie-- McLuhan Scene, so I quickly wrote a brief diary on Kos linking to that legendary scene.

I was honored to be rec'd and then saw that Olbermann mentioned it and my nom de blog on Countdown.

I have achieved my Warholian 15 minutes of pseudonymous fame.  (If only it meant I could retire.)

Here's the link to the diary.

Uniting American Families Act update

On Monday afternoon, I posted a diary discussing the Uniting American Families Act. It also got Front Paged here (thanks, benign overlord administrators) I also received an excellent e-mail about the issue.

I titled the diary "The gay rights bill you don't know about." I should have checked some tags first. Heh.

At any rate, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a very informative hearing on the bill Wednesday morning.

To recap, UAFA does one simple thing. It would allow American citizens to sponsor same sex partners for immigration just like married couples. The Senate bill is sponsored by Patrick Leahy of Vermont while the House version is sponsored by Jerrold Nadler of New York. Follow me below for a recap of the hearing.

Ready For An Openly Gay Supreme Court Justice?

Would it matter to you if the nominee to the Supreme Court which President Obama is going to shortly pick were openly gay or lesbian? The Dog is going to assume his readers are liberal and would care less about a Justices sexual orientation than about her or his views on the law. After all, we don't seem to care the current Justices are all heterosexual so what difference should it make, right?
