Today, in hearings on Capitol Hill, I confronted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on her role in the lies, exaggerations, and misdirection that led us into the Iraq war.

During my questioning, Secretary Rice falsely stated that she never saw intelligence casting doubt on the Bush Administration claims that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction. This unbelievable statement is flatly contradicted by numerous government reports and CIA testimonials.

Sources such as the 2006 Senate Intelligence Report, a January 2004  Carnegie Endowment for International Peace report as well as former CIA agents (including Tyler Drumheller) have disclosed that there was contrary intelligence to the information provided to the Bush Administration in the lead up to the Iraq war.

See this video:

Secretary Rice's responses demonstrate once and for all that we need aggressive oversight over this out of control Administration. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration has ignored the constitutional right of Congress to provide such oversight.

It is time Congress took aggressive action to assert our rights on behalf of the American people.

The House of Representatives must immediately hold former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten in contempt of Congress for their failure to respond to congressional subpoenas.

I have been aggressively lobbying Members of Congress to support a vote on contempt, and I am thrilled to report that Speaker Pelosi told me directly that she agrees it is well past time to vote on contempt. I am anticipating that the House will shortly vote on resolutions of both civil and criminal contempt for both Miers and Bolten.

No one should be immune from accountability and the rule of law.

Not Harriet Miers or Josh Bolten.

And especially not Condoleezza Rice, George W. Bush or Dick Cheney.

It is time to defend the Constitution and our rights as a co-equal branch of government.

I will continue to take on the Bush Administration for their outrageous abuses just as I confronted Condoleezza Rice today and Attorney General Mukasey last week. (Click here to see my questioning of Mukasey.)

With your help we will hold these top Bush officials in contempt and continue our efforts to hold impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney.

Thank you, as always, for your great support.

Yours truly,

Congressman Robert Wexler

Full disclosure: I am not associated in any (4.00 / 14)
way with Congressman Wexler's office.

I saw this on DailyKos and believe it needed to be seen as widely as possible, so I sought and received permission to crosspost it.

Thanks for getting (4.00 / 7)
Wexler's word out on the intertubes!  The more exposure he
gets the harder it will be for these issues to be swept under
the rug~~you know, that rug that looks like a mountain? ;)

Thanks for posting that, Greyhawk! (4.00 / 6)
I get the e-mails and try to get them spread around, as well.  I will post the e-mail (the same as here) elsewhere.

Really admirable work on the part of Cong. Wexler!

Wexler is going for it... (4.00 / 9)
I got this on my e-mail.  I'm on his list.  He has been sending out good pieces on his standing for the Constitution and for Principles.  I recommend people subscribe to his e-list.

Thanks GreyHawk, for getting this out here.

Lies and Circuses! (4.00 / 9)
What is most amazing to me is the coverage in the MSM.

Network Television again drugged the rabble with mucho coverage of Roger Clemmens and his former trainer testifying before the HOR Oversignt Committee.

Which one, Clemmens or the trainer, was lying about the use or non use of, OMG, "Performance Enhancers?"

But I saw nothing about Condi's testimony.

Yesterday, there was virtually nothing about the passage of warrantless wiretapping which, before yesterday would have been a prosecutable crime.

And there has been very little, and certainly nothing on-going, about the 935 "lied us into war" -isms of the bush boys and girls.

I guess my values are just plain uposide down.  I believe lying in order to kill a million folk is not even in the same ball park as taking steroids or HGH.

Let's get out of this ball park!

I'm with you, dharmasyd! (4.00 / 5)
The truth is stranger than fiction thought applies.

It was absolutely amazing to see Cong. Waxman on C-Span conducting a hearing on the Clemmons' issue of his use of "enhanced drugs.  One of the Congressmen went so far as to say, "This is a serious parting from our Democracy."  THIS display of our government and the serious handling of the Clemmons' matter, as we cringe daily at the continual "crumbling" of our government and the Constitution, itself, with minimal, if any, efforts to even face it.

But then, I guess my sense of priorities are skewed and I'm just plain crazy!!!

we are in good company with our "skewered priorities" and values.  Thanks to you.

Managed ... (4.00 / 8)
... to watch the entire Condi video, not something I usually do, when I got the Wexler video yesterday via email.

She did the usual, tried to run out the clock with her "answers," and never fucking answered the question.  When it comes to panels like this, I don't think there should be such a short time limit - I've seen this over and over where the Repubs under questioning babble endlessly and run out the clock.

Rice is an embarrassment to us all, just as this entire misAdministration is.  She cannot defend her integrity because she never had any to begin with.  But I do believe she believes what she is saying because she has never been in touch with reality.

Thieves.  Murderers.  Liars.  Delusionary incompetents.

Yep, no story there.  Best to focus on the campaigns instead.

I think if she completely believed what she was saying (4.00 / 8)
she would have no problem having it be questioned and investigated, and in fact would be leading the efforts to do so.

I agree with you at the same time, though. I think she's managed to compartmentalize her own mind enough to be able to both believe what she's saying, and at the same time know that she lies.

Noble lies, of course....

[ Parent ]
Well ... (4.00 / 8)
... I think her only problem was that anyone DARED to question her at all.  It was written all over her face as she responded.  I think she is delusional ... and I don't mean that in the clinical sense, just can't come up with another word that suits her mentality.  I also think she is utterly incompetent (always have thought this) and that plays into it as well.

Drama Queen (4.00 / 7)
I know that sounds trite, but that's what I think when I watch Condi in action.
"All huff and puff and bustle and fuss."

No ponies, but
"Please pass the lotus flower..."

[ Parent ]
Oh yeah, I agree. (4.00 / 6)
Wexler is only a lowly Congressman after all. Not part of the inner circle. Where in the hell does he get the temerity and the audacity? These kinds of lines of questioning could bring down the whole system she's worked so hard for years to build. He might even be a terrist lover.... the little insect.

[ Parent ]
Yep. (4.00 / 6)
I think we've seen that over and over even with the lesser Repub fish that have been investigated ... this attitude that they don't give a shit what folks in Congress or the Senate ask them -- they know they are under the protection of the thugs so they show nothing but contempt for the rest of us.

I'll never forget seeing Monica Goodling respond to the charge she broke the law by saying "But I didn't mean to!"

That is the level of competence and integrity we have in government today.

[ Parent ]
If you ever wonder why I sometimes get so condescending (4.00 / 7)
talking about and to some of the wingnuts.... Condi's performance is a good example. I think they need to get what they give. You know?

[ Parent ]
Lol ... (4.00 / 5)
... I never wonder -- I do the same thing!

Tho I think condescension is the least of what we feel.

[ Parent ]
the least, (4.00 / 5)
yes. what gets me about watching the 'wingers is the field day my mother would have had with them. she would have withered them with one look, you know?  the whole martyr act, they (BushInc) all play it. Condi is no more an adult that GWB... they're all playing dress up.

Something like the withering glare in this Afghani woman's eyes, you mean? (4.00 / 6)

[ Parent ]
Or the withering look in this girls eyes? (4.00 / 6)

The Iraqi Childrens Debacle

I was about to say that I doubt Condi could even look at this photo.

But on reflection, I think it probably wouldn't bother her at all....

Delusional self confidence... (4.00 / 5)
...Doesn't steroid use contribute to this kind of delusion?
Outraged indignity!  How dare you question my integrity?  How dare you question my superior athletic skill?

NO NO NO...I'm not delusional.  I'm not a liar.  I don't do performance enhancers!

"Collective wisdom" (4.00 / 8)
wonderful.  Now we know that  "Collective wisdom" trumps all.

I unsubscribed from every political email list well over a year ago. I will subscribe to Wexler's.

Bravo, GrayHawk for asking for permission to repost. I appreciate the opportunity to watch this.

bluster (4.00 / 4)
The congressmen is right--but he already knows that his colleagues lack the courage to do anything.  Looks good to feed us this dialogue only if there's action.  I'd rather buy the Brooklyn Bridge than trust congressional Dems--especially when they are "led" by Pelosi.

Sadly, the founding fathers realized that the only way to dethrone King George was with weapons.  They were wise men.  I am surprised Americans have become so complacent--must be the lack of a draft or war taxation.

May I add... (4.00 / 7)
Certainly not Donald Rumsfeld, who is likely drawing a nice pension now and forever, and who belongs in the Hague.

Thanks (4.00 / 4)
for reposting this at OOIBC, Greyhawk.

You're quite welcome. (0.00 / 0)
I may have something else to post over there soon, too.

I'll let you know.

(Or mebbe I'll simply surprise ya...)
