In another arrogant collusion to once again deny us any possibility of what we want -- real health care reform, single payer, public option -- those who do what they want, but not what we want, have decided to scrap the conference committee to reconcile the Senate and House versions.  Instead, they have decided to have a secret meeting of the 3 major players, Pelosi, Reid, Obama, behind closed doors without reporters or C-Span.

This is a call to action.  We need to call congress and tell them we are furious.  Like modern day Paul Reveres, we need to ride through the countryside on our internet horses and yell from the rooftops, "The fascists are coming.  The fascists are coming."   And we aren't gonna take it any more.  No we aren't.

It's time for the Second American Revolution.  We need to let Congress know we aren't going to take this any more.  No taxation without representation.  No mandates to force us to buy junk health insurance when we don't have a democratic say in what is being put into law.

To the rooftops, to the tubes, to Congress, say NO!  We won't take it any more.  The Second American Revolution is coming.  The Second American Revolution is Coming.

In John Nichols' column, "Dem Leaders Scheme to Scrap Health-Reform Conference Committee," Nichols reports there will be no conference committee working to reconcile the two healthcare bills. Progressives had hoped to impact the final legislation in a profound way through this committee.

We have been lied to over and again in our attempts to get a debate and a vote on Medicare for All. Our last hope to negotiate a state waiver to ERISA, which would allow states to pass single-payer healthcare without a court challenge from healthcare corporations, has vanished before our eyes.

This is the final straw.

Call Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid. Tell them you will not support any Democrat in the midterms who votes for a bill which:
does not include the ERISA waiver for states--effective immediately, and
includes a mandate forcing us to buy defective corporate insurance policies

Time is short, and they need to hear from us--TODAY and TOMORROW. The Democratic Caucus meets on Thursday.

This is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Please make these two calls and use the 'forward-to-a-friend' button above to send this action to like-minded people you know.

Please reread The Declaration of Independence.  It states that all men  are created equal and are endowed with certain unalienable rights--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  In order to secure these rights:

Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Whenever a government becomes destructive of these rights (and health care is included in these rights), "it is the right of the People [to rise up] to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government."  

We have reached this point.  The government has gone too far in corruption, cronyism, and the power of the dollar.  We are now living with a government which is enimical to, and destructive of our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  

But I digress.  There will be more on this later/soon.  For now, however, we need to give notice to our Congressional non-representatives that their tenure of serving the corporate rich and harming "We the People" is coming to an end.

If they refuse to give us real Health Care Reform, they are finished.  We will work toward the Second American Revolution.

I wasted a lot of time calling (4.00 / 8)
my erstwhile rep (Blue Dog Heath Shuler) and Senators (only one of which is a Blue Dog, other is a corporatist Rep). Got absolutely nothing for my trouble because they flat don't care what I want or need. Nor do they care what any other non-corporate citizen wants or needs. We lost the government awhile ago, we aren't going to be getting it back by making phone calls. Or writing letters. Or freezing our buns off in the streets dodging rubber bullets or microwave crowd-roasters. We're not going to get it back by voting for the honest bad guys, voting for a dozen 'challengers' that get fielded just to ensure the bad guys win, or by not voting at all.

Not at all sure what we could ever do to TPTB to change things, but a popular insurgency is just going to get smashed hard and fast. I suspect it might work better to ignore them to death.

...you are correct.  As soon as we started really trying to contact them en masse, they developed tactics to take us out of the loop.

Actually, ignoring them to death, is kind of like what I've advocated for a long time--refuse to participate; we need to drop out, refuse to comply with their systems.

That's definitely part of it, part of the Second American Revolution.  It has nothing to do with going into the streets with guns and being mowed down instantly.  It is figuring out subtle, legal, intelligent ways to break the system, to stop the system, to bring the system to its knees, so to speak.  

Someone at DD recently posted the famous quote from Mario Savio's speech, such a good excerpt.  Busy today, but will try to take the time to find it.  Or maybe the poster will put it in the comments here.

Small ways to break the system (4.00 / 9)
arise organically in the overlapping spheres of influence (skill, talent, drive, networking) of individuals. The old "think globally, act locally" thing, but with less globalist investment. Local barter exchanges and currency, cooperative ag and food supply efforts, community investment in basics for all (food, shelter, transportation, energy supply, etc.). Take advantage of any funding offered if the strings aren't too restrictive, but go as much as possible on grassroots efforts. Some have money, some have skills, some have other abilities to offer.

Waiting on government to do for us what we should be doing for ourselves and each other is stupid. They don't work for us, they work against us.

you're correct and we've done all those things.  However,
even though we've been IGNORED, I do not believe we should stop calling or writing -- they need to know that Americans are watching and aware.

IMHO, the best way to try and change things is to go for the "snake's head."  We need to collectively fight corporatism.  We can think of many imaginative ways of doing so.  It's a "cancer" and we need to "starve" the cancer!

to get some results out of them. They follow the polls and they know they are facing big trouble in November. If the anger can be capitalized on now and enough people make it clear as a punch in the nose to them that no democrats at all get any votes or any contributions unless they create and pass a good single payer bill no amount of corporate contributions will do them any good at all.

They need the votes more than they need the money... they'll do whatever they have to do for those votes.

We've been told that there is nothing we can do but STFU and accept what's handed to us. We can fix it later. Single payer was never an option. Obama and Rahm know what is best. It's the best we can do.

I know I misses a few but what BS we've been handed by the so called activist Democrats. They were loud enough about FDL but couldn't find their collective voices to fight for at least a public option. Now worker's will be taxed on so-called "Cadillac" health insurance and an already financially strapped middle class will be forced buy inadequate insurance policies or be penalized by the IRS. Great.

Yes, I received the same e-mail and had read it previously here, as well!

Deleted from the Senate Bill:

-- no public option

-- no expansion of Medicare

-- no regulations over health care insurance companies

-- will have a mandate on every American to buy the health care insurance

-- will have penalties for not purchasing the mandatory health care insurance;

and one other issue I can't think of at the moment.

The Senate Bill, has been "sucked" dry of just about any possible benefit for Americans, except another "shackling" to corporates, and more theft of our monies.

I'll tell you why these F..king Dems scrapped the conference committee to reconcile the Senate and House versions -- because they were afraid -- just the dissent of four Congressmen, just four, a joint conference, would have sent this bill back for review and "reform."  There were at least, Kucinich, Conyers, Grayson, and a couple of others that were almost a given to have voted against the outcome of the conference.  So, in order to avoid that scenario, the leader Dems decided to skip the joint conference.  

IT IS BLATANTLY CLEAR THAT THE DEMS WILL DO AND INTEND ON DOING EVERYTHING TO PASS THIS GARBAGE BILL, JUST TO TAKE CREDIT FOR ONE OF THE WORST LEGISLATIONS POSSIBLE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

-- domestic:  pressuring the need for concentration on combatting global warming

We just need to try to keep getting the word out about the tidal wave of destruction which is coming at us.  People need to be made aware of just how bad this is going to get if we do not stop them.

...is non violent, I really want to use the Second American Revolution.  Nothing else has the same power for me.  I don't want just another movement.  

I want to return to our roots, to our rights which were articulated in the Declaration of Independence.  

I want to say NO to this corrupt government as is our right, as the Colonies threw off the yoke of English oppression, but not by violence, simply by refusal, by doing the things you suggest in your fine list.

Maybe with a tag after it, something like: "The Peaceful Refusal of We the People to be Harmed by Our Government." Will take some work and thinking, but I want to find a way.

I also recognize that whatever it is called, there will be those among any group who will probably resort to violence no matter how they are counciled against it.

But while I can try to avoid that, I cannot restrain my need to speak and to act out of fear that some may act counter to the rules and act violently.

We are too far down the road to total destruction to restrain ourselves.

If our supposed leaders do the same thing with cap-&-trade-global-warming legislation, they are threatening the death not just of individuals who don't have adequare health insurance; they are threatening the death of much of the biological life on this planet.

More on the issue of global warming and what our wars have done to harm the "planet:"

Professor Michael Klare noted in 2007:

Sixteen gallons of oil. That's how much the average American soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan consumes on a daily basis -- either directly, through the use of Humvees, tanks, trucks, and helicopters, or indirectly, by calling in air strikes. Multiply this figure by 162,000 soldiers in Iraq, 24,000 in Afghanistan, and 30,000 in the surrounding region (including sailors aboard U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf) and you arrive at approximately 3.5 million gallons of oil: the daily petroleum tab for U.S. combat operations in the Middle East war zone.

So, when you look at those figures, you kinda' wind up saying to yourself, "which came first? . . . ."  Did we illegally aggress Iraq and Afghanistan, because we needed their oil? -- or -- Did we go after the oil in Iraq and Afghanistan, in order to guarantee continual war?  Whichever, it is all so sick and wanton as to be almost incredible, except that we KNOW that it is a reality and that the wars are for the monopolizing greedy, ego-socio-maniacal corporate elite filth of the planet.

And, yes, as for what you've said,

except for one thing, syd, our "roots" so to speak have never, ever been that great.  We were Federal expansionists from the very beginning -- we have a history of genocide, murder, aggressive behavior from the very beginning and onward.  Yes, the Constitution* and the Declaration of Independence make us feel good and think of us in a different context, but we've NEVER completely upheld our Constitution or the Declaration of Independence from the beginning and, democracy?  Well, you and everyone else can answer that one.  The "learning" of our history shrouded us from the truth from the get-go.

*My mother told me when I was quite young (pre-teen) that there was room for a king in our Constitution -- I never quite understood her -- but I do NOW!

If we speak the truth, then, I believe, those who uphold moral values, will ultimately wish to fight against the "truth" -- in other words, to do whatever to try and reverse it.  Others, well, that's another story -- no one, but on one likes to wake up and realize that their country has been pretty rotten from the get-go.  But, say, using the premise of the Constitution, and with constant repetition (Republicanism) of how it has been assaulted from the beginning might resonate well.

We know their answer.

Filing deadlines are going to start slipping away.  Why not just announce you are going to primary them and do it?  If you don't have a candidate already, get one right now, don't waste time to see how the healthcare bill turns out.

We have to distinguish ourselves from the angry drunk who staggers out of the bar saying "I'll get you next time!"  Bartender has heard that so many times, he yawns and pours another.  Our threats have no credibility because we have bluffed too many times.

Ah! I just thought of a 3-pronged strategy to counteract 'blogging to the choir' (0.00 / 0)
In school newspapers all over the country, take out ads that

1) Call Obama a liar, enumerate his lies, give a web address where the details are given, and demand apologies for each of them. We need to break the disempowering (because it's so self-limiting) phenomenon of "blogging to the choir". (We need to place these ads in school newspapers, because any ad which calls Obama a liar will never make it to TV, or to "respectable" publications, including flagship lefty ones. It will be censored 95% of the time, I'll guess.)

SIMULTANEOUSLY - IN THE SAME ADS

2) Call out the Progressives who ostensibly have some principles more dear to them than being all comfy with the Democratic Party, and for being so passive when they should be excoriating the President. I would title this part of the ad "Put up or shut up". In this section, I would tell them about Full Court Press, and challenge them either to support it, or else run their own Progressive candidates against the corporatists.

FINALLY, I WOULD QUOTE FDL REGARDING THE 'VEAL PEN' - IN THE SAME ADS

3) People need to know how and why the President can betray us and get no pushback from most of the Left.
