Sue Turton will be on to talk about “Al Jazeera journalists found guilty of allegedly broadcasting false news reports in Egypt”, according to the twitter machine.

In late June, 2014, three Al Jazeera English employees were sentenced to seven to ten year jail terms on “terrorism” charges for news reports deemed supportive of the banned Muslim Brotherhood. The sentences were applied after several court hearings took place featuring no evidence to back the government’s claims. The three, Mohamed Fahmy, Peter Greste and Baher Mohamed, plan an appeal. There was international condemnation of the court proceedings from both governments and media, with the terms “chilling and draconian” used by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to describe the jail sentences. Newly elected Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi however was unmoved, a day after the verdicts declaring his government would not intervene in judicial rulings.

Many journalists (at least those who still care about their profession which is not as many as you think) have expressed thier solidarity by posing for pictures with a black piece of duct tape across their mouths.

Jon has a dog in this fight as he’s still ripping mad about the suppression of Bassem Youssef which took place just over a month ago.

Nancy Pelosi is, well, Nancy Pelosi and I’m sure she will give Stephen an upbeat and entirely vacuous interview about how the Democratic Party is sure to triumph in November.  Of course, if they don’t and Obama is impeached (for the wrong reasons) I’m sure she’ll find some way to convince herself in the usual Beltway Bootlicker/Versailles Villager way that taking it “off the table” for war crimes and torture in 2006 was the right thing to do because we wouldn’t want to trivialize that awesome power on anything frivolous like a blowjob.
