GULF Coast, A dedication

(2PM EST - promoted by Nightprowlkitty)

I`m back with more underwater images in support of the gulf  coast, it`s inhabitants above & below the surface, & to all who`ve worked so hard to keep the daily developments on the front pages.
I would like to also mention a big "Thank You" to all the workers out on all the skimming boats, the oil retrieval crews on the beaches,  &  the crews out working on the rigs, tankers & the ROV operators who have worked nonstop to end this gusher.
I cannot blame them for the bad decisions of their managers.
Now that the gusher is stopped albeit temporarily, I think we can have a little breather.
Then we`ll have to get back to keeping this catastrophe  at the top of the news, since we all know how the style of news cycles here can rapidly shift away the  important issues to  iPhones & Lohans.

Knucklehead :: GULF Coast, A dedication
I must stress that the images I post are not necessarily gulf inhabitants, they are my tank inhabitants, but it`s the only way I can personally do my part to make others aware of what we stand to lose, when we are not proper stewards of our planet.
With that in mind, we have to be prepared to work for years to clean up this disaster.
The oceans are the heartbeat of this planet, & we just gave it a stroke.

Have a great weekend.

If it works in changing one persons mind about taking care of our oceans, I`m thrilled.

They are all great, Knuck! (4.00 / 3)
I'm glad you included a sunset photo, perhaps for old time's sake.

A few, such as "Starbursts and Galaxies" and "Fluorescing Tube Anemone" look like they may have had some special effects applied (perhaps special light filters, etc.?).  In any event, they are quite stunning.

Hope all is going well in your part of the world, Knuck!

That`s the before & after. The primeval ocean of eons ago, & how it will be again when we finally as humans, eliminate ourselves.
The planet will be here a lot longer than us humans.
"Starburst & Galaxies" is a straight up shot of a miniscule starfish edging up the glass of the tank with a large Purple Anemone behind it.
Directly below that is another shot of the same little starfish & the anemone. You can see the tiny starfish in the center of the anemone which you can also see at the top of the diary, in yet another shot of the anemone called "PURPLE Contortionist".
As for the "Fluorescing Anemone" it`s simply shot with a flash like all the other images posted.
It glowzinthedark, & is quite spectacular at night.
No special effects.

All`s well in my part of the world. My cactus are blooming like crazy.
I have one that has over a dozen blooms on it right now, with the first one fully opened to the size of a large saucer. Here`s one that opened a few days ago, on a cactus that`s only about 8" tall.
I`ll shoot some other ones tomorrow that are on some of my other cactus 8' & 12' tall.

During my only visit ever to Arizona several years ago... (4.00 / 2)
during late March, 2006, I was fortunate enough to see the desert in bloom, which was an unforgettable sight.

Might your larger cacti include a saguaro? If so, it could eventually become much larger. I learned that since they are mostly water, they are very heavy, and if, for whatever reason, one was to fall on a car, it could inflict serious damage.

I would imagine that you are likely on a little later blooming schedule. I'll be looking forward to seeing more photos of cactus flowers. Perhaps you have flowering succulents as well?

I believe a Saguaro gets it`s first branch only after it is 75/100 years old.
I don`t believe I have any of these in my collection.
I have maybe 30 different species.
Most of my blooming ones of which I have a dozen or so, produce blooms that basically last only overnight, so it is an "Event" for me.
Here`s one from last April.
Once this gulf catastrophe is over I shall revert to my usual postings of "general" interest, rather than exclusively marine images.
"I want my life back".
And yes I have many flowering succulents.
More soon.
