Stupak: Lip stick on a Democrat

(noon. - promoted by ek hornbeck)

PhotobucketInstead of real health care reform (Medicare for all, everyone in and everyone pays), the health care bills in the House and the Senate are just expanded Medicaid with a public option that isn't an option to the public at all.  Thanks to Stupak, the taxpayers will pay for prayer therapy and Viagra while restricting payments for abortions.  Apparently Stupak has no problem with killing 45,000 born babies and their parents each year.

Like the bank bailouts and Medicare Part D, Democratic health care reform is just another corporate rip off of the middle class; and for this privilege, they cut Medicare benefits and raised Medicare's monthly premiums.  So much for no increases to people who make fewer than 250K a year.

With Democrats like Stupak in Washington, it really doesn't matter which party wins election because Republicans and religious zealots like Stupak win either way.  The Democratic health care reform bills are "like putting whip cream on a turd", to quote a local official in the newspaper on a totally different subject,.

The do nothing Democrats will pass anything, declare victory, and expect applause.   Maybe if we clap hard enough, we can make them all disappear.

Medicine jar, (4.00 / 15)
we're all going to need it.

The larger problem (4.00 / 8)

"I have respect for the chief executive, but I don't work for him. I work for people of the 29th Congressional District.

At the highest level this bill will enshrine in law the monopolistic powers of the private health insurance industry. There's no other way to look at it."

           --Congressman Eric Massa, D-NY

"Hallelujah!" (4.00 / 5)
"It's a bonanza," said Robert Laszewski, a health insurance executive for 20 years who now tracks reform legislation as president of the consulting firm Health Policy and Strategy Associates Inc.

Some insurance company leaders continue to profess concern about the unpredictable course of President Obama's massive healthcare initiative, and they vigorously oppose elements of his agenda. But Laszewski said the industry's reaction to early negotiations boiled down to a single word: "Hallelujah!"

The larger problem is not quite that. (4.00 / 4)
The larger problem is that progressives do not want to take power over the process, and voice Eric Massa's concern at this moment.

Anyone here have an update on the Stupak amendment?

Stupak: Amendment Defeated on Voice Vote, Recorded Vote to Follow

The health care bill will pass tonight, Speaker Pelosi says the Dems have the votes. Stupak Amendment loses on the voice vote. A member asks for a recorded vote. Further proceedings on this amendment will be postponed.

THe democratic Party (4.00 / 10)
has shifted so far to the right that I no longer recognize them. If these blue dogs are supporting erectile dysfunction and "laying on of hand" instead of protecting women's reproductive health issues and 45,000 people dying without health care then toss their butts out of the party and let them become Republicans. Maybe Sara Palin and the right wing ideologues can do for them what they did in NY-23, get a progressive elected.

They are so desperate to pass anything so (4.00 / 9)
they can call it a victory, it almost doesn't matter what's in it anymore.   As the crazy Republican party purges those that aren't totally insane, they become "Democrats" driving our party further and further to the right.  It is so conservative, it might as well be is the Republican Party.

Can you believe it?  Prayer therapy.

[ Parent ]
The Democratic leadership (4.00 / 5)
if there is any left, needs to start playing by the same rules as as the Republicans, if you don't toe the party line, your out. They won't and it will be their downfall to the detriment of this country.

Heh. Maybe under that clause they'll pay for yoga and meditation. Remember "biofeedback"?

[ Parent ]
Thanks for this, dkmich! (4.00 / 9)
You're right, both the House and Senate bills are pathetic -- latest is, the plan would cover only one in ten Americans -- real health care reform (@###$#$)!  It's a giveaway to the filthy, obscene insurance industry -- a mandate on Americans, and with an already noted and probably guaranteed increase of 25% in premiums.  I think at this point, we should be calling our legislative reps. and demanding they "kill the bill."

Note this article by Norman Solomon, here on the health care debacle.

Here's a pretty gripping video -- h/t Chip.

Ms. Pelosi makes me sick to my stomach! (4.00 / 5)
I cannot think of her as anything but a phony "masquerade" talking about the merits of this or that and then proceeding to sabotage whatever it is.  Her modus operandi. Of course, remembering her taking "impeachment off the table" as though she had a constitutional right to do so, that is, to remove a Constitutional provision from, not only within our grasps, but removing it was tantamount to taking it out of the Constitution.  Her excuse?  "I didn't want their to be too much divisiveness!"

Of course, she says one thing, then continues to bow and cater to the Repugs, the corporatists, etc., etc.

I can't stand her -- she's a phony and an utter liar -- and will do anything (in the guise of . . . .) to make the Dems look good.

Over at another place I was told to
"watch my sources", well this one is online insurance complete with multiple logos of those "great satans" themselves.
Not up to date on shots?  Coverage Denied!
So somebody else at the other board chided me for not checking the CDC.  Hey, I don't get paid for this, and what means "source" in these everybody lies, spins, cheats and or are complete idiots, minions of Satan or owned entirely by corporate.

Being from mAssachusetts, a mandatory junk insurance state the reams of evidence are crystal clear as are the motives behind bill S2028, the swine flu martial law bill.

Ha, sources.

I've been looking and can't quite find the law (4.00 / 3)
(I think it's a combination of the Military Commissions Act and Homeland Security), wherein all the provisions in the event of an emergency, such as a pandemic "flu" were spelled out, such as the government would take control over the states, list comprising people with diseases, elderly, etc. would be provided, etc. -- martial law, in other words.  I wanted to find the exact language in the law(s) itself, but I have found this, which talks about the emergency plans of Bush, et al.

The flu vaccine was a win-win for the BIG Pharma industry!

How do you trade off a RIGHT?
A woman's RIGHT to reproductive control!
Unbelievable!
It's sad; especially with Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house (though obviously not her position).
We have a corporate, male, dominated patriarchy, yet.

From [http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/2009/11/07/and-the-catholic-bishops-endorse-a-special-thank-you-to-planned-parenthood-and-naral/Jane Hamsher}

There's a shit storm going down on TV right now on CSPAN as the health care bill hits the floor of the House.

Thank you Democrats, for making women take a punch in the throat from a bunch of old men who have spent the better part of the last century avoiding their own problems. So Rahm and Obama (who did nothing to stop it) can have their "w":

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops delivered a critical endorsement to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday by signing off on late-night agreement to grant a vote on an amendment barring insurance companies that participate in the exchange from covering abortions.

"Passing this amendment allows the House to meet our criteria of preserving the existing protections against abortion funding in the new legislation," the Bishops wrote in a letter to individual members. "Most importantly, it will ensure that no government funds will be used for abortion or health plans which include abortion."

Well, you have to give the culture warriors something, so they can go around cheering about the big victory that they got in this bill.  So happy to have the chance to line it all up for you all.

Thank you, Planned Parenthood and NARAL, from the bottom of my heart, for sitting on your hands and enabling this shit.  Hope you have fun at all those Common Purpose meetings, those cocktail parties at the Pelosi's.

You own this one.

It's not like they haven't been perfecting this act for a long time.   Helping the Democrats stay in power by giving them the Official Good Gyno Seal of Approval even when they do things like - oh, I don't know, voting for Samuel Alito and tell rape victims to take a cab to another hospital if they want to get Plan B contraception.

I think she is pissed. This about sums it up for me as well. This bill should fail at all possible costs. Mother Goddess, Obama and Democrats screwed this up royally.

And how cogent -- (4.00 / 4)
is Jon Walker's analysis here?

It is assumed that if Stupak's amendment is included in the bill several conservative Democrats will vote to pass the overall health care reform measure. Indications are that there not enough pro-choice Democrats willing to vote against the bill if it includes the Stupak amendment to bring down the bill.
