The famous tune was penned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono 40 years ago this Saturday, July 4.

jimstaro :: This 4th of July, "Give Peace a Chance"
It was at a Montreal bed-in that the song was recorded. Those in attendance included Timothy Leary, Dick Gregory, Petula Clark, Derek Taylor, Murray the K and Allen Ginsberg. John Lennon played acoustic guitar and so did Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers. Some of those names became part of the lyrics.

Find the lyrics and a video of Lennon performing the song, and celebrate the independence of our nation by remembering those who worked and continue to work tirelessly for peace.

And leave your thoughts on the message board at the NPR "All Songs Considered - The Blog"!

How hard is it?  Peace?  It's not hard at all!  People around the world WANT peace!  It's the leaders of the world who have no interest in peace, because of their wants and needs of GREED and POWER!

Say "YES" to Generation We  Go there, read the Petition and sign, if you agree!   Say "YES" to GENERAL STRIKE

I commented without reading yours.
How together are we.
Eh, Ma belle, bonne fin de semaine.

So long as the people remain divided, there won't be peace (4.00 / 5)
It's not just all on the leaders. WE are the leaders. We need to work together. But WE let petty divisiveness and our own internal politics detract from our effectiveness. We get played by the cointelpro brats over and over again, preying on insecurities; playing up to issues of ego and down to issues of hatred.

And we are "pacified" while the situation remains inherently unpeaceful. We vent on blogs and then we sit and take the crap that's handed to us anyway. Because we can vent on blogs, and then it's all better and we feel like we don't NEED to actually DO anything else.

It's not on "the leaders". IT'S ON US. If WE abdicate our responsibility to get involved in effecting real change as CITIZENS, then THEY can - do - and will - quite literally get away with MURDER.

Bregða upp friðr-skildi!!!

Anyone who fails to see the historical parallels between Blackwater & the Nazi SS, or the DHS & the Gestapo, needs a serious reality check.

It`s sort of a bummer that you just aged me. I was there in Montreal at the hotel with my friend Kendall Bolduc, at that very time.
Now since nothing else has worked, why don`t they "Give Peace A Chance".
It doesn`t cost anything.
Peace to you & yours sir & to all the world.
It`s strange the number of people, in such a low amount, can prevent peace to the billions who only want it.

And to you, jimstaro. (4.00 / 7)
May all of the peacemaking work you do come back to you tenfold.

Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors.
